Coaches

The people who run the room.

Built by a family. Run to a standard. Led by coaches who still train daily.

Robbie Paraha, 3rd degree BJJ black belt and head instructor at Ako Martial Arts

Robbie Paraha

3rd Degree BJJ Black Belt — Head Instructor

Robbie has competed across Australia and New Zealand at amateur and professional level in MMA, kickboxing, boxing and Jiu-Jitsu. He earned his black belt in 2016 — just four and a half years after he started — and still trains daily.

His coaching philosophy is simple: make training fun enough that you fall in love with the game more than the trophies. Show up, do the work, and let consistency do what motivation can't.

Linzi Paraha, 4th degree BJJ brown belt and instructor at Ako Martial Arts

Linzi Paraha

4th Degree BJJ Brown Belt — Instructor, Kids & Women's Programs

Linzi walked into her first class intimidated and stayed for a decade — competing across Australia along the way. Her background in early childhood education shapes our junior programs, which local schools now seek out.

She leads our women's classes and runs the fundamentals classes — the easiest door into the gym if you're not sure where to start.

Robbie demonstrating technique to the class at Ako Martial Arts

Coached from the floor, not the sideline.

Every class is led on the mats — demonstrating, drilling and rolling alongside the people we coach. You'll never be left to figure it out from the back of the room.

Private and small-group sessions with Robbie or Linzi are available — email info@akomartialarts.com to book.

Ako means to teach and to learn. The coach learns from the student, the blue belt learns from the white belt — nobody on our mats is finished. That goes for the two of us most of all.
