Who it's for
Judo suits people who like the standing side of grappling. Grips, balance, timing, and the moment someone leaves the ground. It pairs well with Jiu-Jitsu, and a lot of our members do both.
What a class looks like
Warm up and breakfalls
How to hit the floor safely. Everything else waits until this is solid.
Grip work
Judo is decided in the grips more than most people realise.
Throws
Technique, entry, timing. Drilled with a partner.
Groundwork
Where Judo and Jiu-Jitsu overlap.
What to wear
A gi for Judo, as it is a gripping art, but come in a t-shirt and shorts for your first class and borrow one while you decide.
When it's on
| Day | Time | Class |
|---|---|---|
| Friday | 4:45 – 5:30 pm | Combined Judo, ages 4–15 |
| Friday | 5:30 – 6:30 pm | Judo, adults |
Friday evenings, kids first then adults. Easy for a parent and child to do back to back.
Is being thrown as bad as it looks?
Learning to fall is the first thing you learn and it is why it is not. Breakfalls come before throws, every time, and you will spend your early weeks on the receiving end of very controlled ones. It is also a skill that stays with you well outside the gym.
Not sure this is the one?
Have a look at these instead, or come in and let a coach point you the right way.
